NVision Welcomes First-Ever “Walk-In” Client

Barbershops have them. Nail salons have them. Even optometrists have them. But I didn’t think we’d ever Sign - Walk Ins Welcomehave them. I’m referring of course to “walk-ins”, as in customers who stop in seeking services without having an appointment. Well, we just had our first-ever walk-in client after 21 years of business. so this is the perfect time to make it clear that at NVision, walk-ins are welcome.

Here’s the story: A national marketing services provider, whose client is one of the country’s largest optical retailers, invented a display to showcase their client’s ability to provide a multitude of different sunglass lens coatings. The display uses small plastic rings about 2″ in diameter, into which the optical retailer can snap a sample lens, which can then be looked through by customers.

The problem was that the marketing services provider didn’t have a CAD file from which to mass-produce the lens rings that those sample lenses snap into. What they needed was a CAD drawing of an existing ring. Their research told them that the best way to achieve that – that is, the best way to reverse engineer a part for which there is no CAD file – is by having a company like NVision scan it and then create the CAD drawing from their scan. Which brought their Retail Solutions Specialist to our door with the part.

Plastic Lens HolderWe were able to quickly scan the lens ring using our HandHeld laser scanner and provide them with the CAD files they needed. Start to finish, the whole project took only a few hours and then our client’s rep was back in his truck with the files heading home. He told us that “this is likely the fastest I’ve seen a designer and a customer work together to get files that work for our process.”

I’m pleased to say that we’ll be seeing a lot more of that truck, too. You see, much of what that company produces is custom and they’ve already told us they’re looking forward to working with us on what they describe as their “next funky custom retail display stuff invention project”.

So there you have it. We’ve had our first walk-in client. Maybe there will be others in the future. Who knows? If this becomes a trend, there may even be a drive-thru lane in NVision’s future.

NVision Gets A Head

At NVision, we have a head for orthodontics – literally. Recently, an orthodontic supplier hired NVision to scan a human skull as part of the verification/inspection process for its in-house CT machine. The resulting 3D scanning results we provided to the company contained all the measurement data necessary for it to recalibrate its CT machine…

For a Better Fit – Use NVision

It is possible to use laser scanning to develop your manufacturing processes to produce a better final product. For example, a manufacturer of hearing aids wanted to check the effect of various in-production processes on the shells. Using the MobileScan3D laser scanner, NVision’s Contract Services division, produced high resolution data sets of the shells from…
